In a significant development, Ukraine’s military has reported another successful attack, dealing a blow to a Russian warship in the Black Sea. This latest strike adds to a series of setbacks for Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet, which Ukraine claims has suffered significant losses since the conflict began.
According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, the attack was carried out using maritime drones operated by its specialized Group 13 unit. The target of the strike was the Russian patrol ship Sergei Kotov, situated near the Kerch Strait that separates occupied Crimea from southwestern Russia.
The strike inflicted considerable damage on the Sergei Kotov, resulting in fires breaking out on board. This operation was executed in collaboration with the Ukrainian Navy and received support from Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, highlighted the effectiveness of the attack, stating that the Sergei Kotov had been decisively destroyed—a significant blow to Russian naval capabilities.
Ukraine’s use of maritime drones has proven highly effective, with previous attacks causing significant damage to Russian warships. This latest incident follows similar strikes on the Russian landing ship Caesar Kunikov, further weakening Russia’s naval presence in the region.
